Is purple leaf meaning better quality ?

2022-04-02

We did a survey on Linkedin regarind to the purple leaf of cannabis :

So a quick question for the growers:

Is the purple leaf of the cannabis meaning quality better than the green ones ,or just more visually favorable by customers ?

Welcome to leave your insights .

Thanks

The constructive comments we received from the growers as bellow :

David :

The purple is a phenotypical expression caused by anthocyanins within the plant. It seems (in my experience) cold temperatures are a catalyst to achieve the purple color. From
my understanding, purple cannabis plants are typically lower in THC content but that could be false as I’ve never seen a true study on the matter. Over all I believe it’s just a fascination for the end user.

Robert :

Actually the deviation in color is not a determining factor in THC content. Some of the growers are having incredible results in red and purple 💜 I am delighted with this post.

Wolfe:

In nature when the plants breaks down its chlorophyll into sugars things like anthoscyanins which are already present in the plant, they are left with the highest concentrations making it purple. Generally all cannabis has this but some contain more which is also genetic. Cold temperatures bring on this effect and let the plant know when to change. Same reason for fall colors., except some cannabis is genetically bred with higher concentrations of whatever chemical composition it has which gives it its color when chlorophyll breaks down at the end of its cycle.

Greg:

It's irrelevant. It all depends on the quality of the actual flowers. Purple leaves are genetics. I have seen some plants go fully purple leaves while others go light green or yellow up in the same rooms with the same feed.

Ron:

Anthocyanins produce the purple colors, it's all about preference but it sure is pretty!
